Dec 21, 2016

The United Nations World Food Program (WFP) issued a written statement yesterday calling on the Taliban authorities in Afghanistan to stop accusations against the agency and its Afghan staff.

WFP emphasizes that it is committed to the principles of neutrality of the United Nations and has never engaged in religious propaganda activities in Afghanistan or anywhere else. The Program stated that it would continue to provide food aid to millions of poor Afghan civilians and that the Taliban authorities would facilitate, rather than set up, obstacles to that difficult task.

On the 5th of this month, the Taliban arrested eight members of international relief organizations on the grounds of spreading Christianity. 22, the Taliban issued a statement, ruled out access to eight detained persons.

The Taliban's Foreign Minister declared that WFP was also suspected of spreading Christianity among Afghans, and warned the United States that it was prepared to accept the Taliban investigation, as the "mission" stalled.
